Newark- Luther Franklin Hylton, age 74, passed on May 7, 2021.
He was born in Corine, WV and was raised in Avondale, PA and was the son of the late Bertha P. (Hatcher) and James R. Hylton, Sr.Luther worked for the University of Delaware in the food service departments for 31 years and retired in 2008. He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, cutting grass and traveling with his wife Doris. Luther’s pet cats and dogs would enjoy using Luther as their own personal pillow.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Doris Lucie (Adams); son, David Hylton (Tina); 3 granddaughters, Ashley Laughlin (Josh), Brooke Hylton and Bella Hylton; 2 great grandsons, Owen and Samuel Laughlin; a brother, Johnny Ray and nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews. Luther was also preceded in death by his siblings, James R. Hylton, Jr., William A. Hylton and Shirley Ann Summers (James).
A viewing will begin at 11 am on Monday, May 17 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, where a funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Burial will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle. Services will be held in accordance with the current health directives, wearing masks, social distancing and capacity requirements.
