Brad Smethurst, 56, of Newark, died unexpectedly on May 2 at Beebe Hospital.
Brad was born in Wilmington to Roberta and the late William Smethurst. He graduated from Hodson Vo-Tech where he specialized in architectural design. After he graduated from High School, he began his long career as a brick mason. Brad worked for several area construction companies, including J. W. Walker & Sons, and most recently, Diamond State Masonry. In his spare time, Brad loved sports, especially the Eagles and the Phillies; and he enjoyed fishing and spending time at the beach.
Brad is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dawn Roberts Smethurst; their 2 children – Taylor (Johnny) Paletar and Trevor (Breanne Owens) Smethurst; two grandchildren – Carson and Briar; his mother Roberta Smethurst; his brother William James Smethurst, III; his sister Debra Schreiber; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Brad was preceded in death by his siblings – Steve Smethurst and Robin Burgess.
A viewing will be held from 9-10:15am, Saturday, at Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Newark, 308 Possum Park Rd., where the funeral service will begin at 10:30. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park. Please follow all standard covid precautions.
