Formerly of Wilmington- Emiko Thorp, age 74, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
Emiko was born on September 2, 1946, in Kagoshima Japan to the late Hirose and Sumie Niihara. She married Benjamin Thorp in 1974 and returned with him to the United States where they raised two children, Edward and Jennifer.
Emiko had a passion for nature, art, textiles, and ceramics. When she wasn’t in the garden, she could be found painting, sewing, or creating pottery. Outside of the home, she exercised her culinary skills by helping to make sandwiches at Christ Church and working in the Winterthur Cafe. One of her favorite pastimes was strolling in the gardens at Winterthur after her shift and enjoying the flowers.
Emiko was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin. She is survived by her children Edward and Jennifer, and her three brothers, Tatsuya, Teruo, and Satoru.
