Claymont-Irene T. Hynes, age 95, passed away on February 24, 2021
She was born in Rothausen, Germany and was the daughter of the late Alfred and Erna Ruck.Irene was cleared to come to the US in 1948 to marry John Hynes and become a United States citizen. She started her career as a seamstress and then pursued a long career at Sears & Roebuck, Market Street, for 30+ years and retired in 1991.
She kept close ties to her German heritage as a member of the Delaware Saengerbund Club. She was also lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church. Irene was an avid gardener and was a wiz with any type of needle and thread.
After 65 happy years of marriage, John died in 2013. She is survived by 3 daughters, Susan Rugis (David), Linda Fahey, and Heidi Nagle (William); her grandchildren, Erica, Lisa, Alexis, Chelsea, Lauren and Jason and 4 great grandchildren, Liam, Vincent, Morgan and Marlowe. Irene was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Michael Fahey and a brother Edgar Ruck.
A viewing will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington on Tue., Mar. 2, from 9:15-10:15 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am, at Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery. Viewing and services will be held in accordance with the current health directives, wearing masks, social distancing and capacity requirements.
