Hastings, Carolyn A. “Colly”

Wilmington- Carolyn A. “Colly” Hastings, age 84, went to join her beloved husband, Robert R. Hastings, on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

She was born in Upper Darby, PA and was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Hilma West. Colly graduated from Claymont HS in 1955.

A blind date started a wonderful marriage of 57 years. She worked at Strawbridge’s for 25 years. Colly was a 50-year member of the Blue Rock Chorus. She was also a member of Chester Bethel UMC where she truly enjoyed volunteering on Fridays at the Thrift Store. Colly was an Anglophile, collecting any item from Great Britain and was a voracious reader. She would occasionally visit Delaware Park. Many will remember Colly’s Christmas Eve Open Houses, where her door was unlocked to all who wanted to share in the joy of Christmas. She was very proud of support towards the USO and the Wounded Warriors Project.

Family was paramount to Colly’s life. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, who adored and cherished the times she could spend with her family. Colly enjoyed traveling extensively across the country with her family, where many happy times and funny stories are remembered.

Her husband Robert R. “Doc” Hastings died in 2015. Carolyn is survived by her children, Robert Gehrig, Thomas George and Allison A. Dean (Larry); 2 grandchildren, Jack and Sarah Hastings; a sister, Marybeth Friedman (Jerry) and 2 nieces, Stacey and Beth and her beloved cat Charlie. She will also be missed by her grandniece, Bella and grandnephew Ryker, affectionately known by “Aunt Curlers”.

Services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS66675.
