Suzanne Richards Connell, affectionately known as “Sue” or “Souty”, age 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 25, 2025 at Accent Care Hospice.
Born in Peckville, PA on August 17, 1940, Sue was the daughter of the late Russell Jenkins and Cora Delores (Woodworth) Richards. She attended Kreb School and then graduated from Conrad High School in 1958.
After graduation, she worked for the Dupont Company. In 1962 Sue married Charles Connell, who also graduated from Conrad High School in 1958. In 1969 they started their own family with a son, David Charles and two years later a daughter Heather Sue.
Sue liked bowling, going to the flea markets, garage sales, nickle slots, thirft shops, and antique shops. She also enjoyed the beach, traveling the country by car and train, also vacationing on cruise ships to New England, Bermuda, Bahamas, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Alaska and Hawaii.
In her passing, she will be reunited with her baby daughter, Shawn Celeste, her parents, her sister Marilyn Heal and her brother, Richard Richards. Sue is survived by her husband of 62 years, Chuck, her children, David Connell (Jill) and Heather Luszcz (Mark): her grandchildren, Rachael (Josh), Nathan, Austin and Jackson; her great-grandchildren, Savannah, Cason and Gio.
The family wants to give a special thanks to the staff in the memory care unit at Juniper Village at Newark, also Accent Care Hospice and Heartland Hospice.
A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808 where a service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
