Bagdon, Ronald Justin (1943-2022)

Ronald “Ron” J. Bagdon passed away at home, surrounded by his family on August 7, 2022. He fought a long and courageous battle with MS for over 30 years. Ron grew up in Newark, Delaware, son of the late Justin and Anna Bagdon. He graduated from Newark High School and, as a teen, enjoyed exploring the White Clay Creek and being a member of Sea Scouts. Ron earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware. After college, he proudly served and was called to active duty as a member of the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Hercules Research Center after 30 years. Throughout his life, Ron enjoyed exploring the outdoors and gardening. He was an animal lover and enjoyed nature and all its wonders.

Ron was a prolific artist. At an early age, Ron discovered his passion for art. During the holiday season, his paintings adorned shop windows throughout Delaware. He painted murals in several landmarks, including the old Sears Building, various banks, the Court House, New Castle County Air Base, and collaborated with his friend Jamie Wyeth at Lackland Air Force Base. While professionally specializing in portraits and landscapes, his passion was found in his mastery of surrealism. His art encompassed all artistic mediums: pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, oil, acrylic, and watercolor. He shared his gift by teaching art lessons to artists throughout the tri-state area.

Ron’s family was the most important thing in his life, and he dedicated himself to being a good son, husband, father, and friend. Never missing an opportunity to participate with his family, Ron served as a cub scout leader and coached his children in T-ball and baseball. He was an active supporter of The Tatnall School Parent Association, using his artistic abilities to assist with their Annual Garage Sale and After-Prom parties. As a member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, Ron served as a Deacon and Stephen Minister. He also participated on several committees. His art often found its way into church bulletins and theater productions.

Ron is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith M. Bagdon, and his two children, Tamara E. Schoell (Kurt) of Wilmington, Delaware and Zachary J. Bagdon of Landenberg, Pennsylvania, and two grandchildren, Annabelle and Pierce Bagdon, and two sisters.

Ron will be remembered for his generous spirit and willingness to help anyone, friend or stranger.
