O’Toole, Elaine M.

Elaine M. O’Toole, age 73, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 9, 2022.

She was born and raised in Bronx, NY and was the daughter of the late Angelina (Canterino) and Nicholas Caruso. Elaine graduated from Cardinal Spellman HS in 1966. She then received her Bachelor’s Degree from Hunter College, Bronx, NY in English, and her Master’s Degree from Adelphi University, Long Island, NY in Elementary Education.

Elaine started her career as an educator on Long Island, NY then moved to the Capital School District, Dover, DE where she was a gifted and talented education teacher. She retired in 1994 from the Brandywine School District, Wilmington, DE, where she was an elementary school teacher.

As an active member of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Delaware, she served on many committees, taught computer classes, and was passionate about learning as a student. Elaine enjoyed playing computer games, solving puzzles, and reading, but her true joy was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James F.; two sons, James P. (Sheri) and Stephen J. (Christine); nine grandchildren, Noelle, Jessica, Corinne, Justin, Eve, Andrew, Mary, Avery and Jimmy; a great-granddaughter, Sophie and two siblings, Pat DiSimone (Joe) and Therese Cingranelli (David).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 15 at 11:30 a.m., at The Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd, Wilmington, DE, where relatives and friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Masks must be worn.
