Landt, Anna Mae


Glen Mills – Anna Mae Landt, age 104, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Maris Grove, her home for the past 12 years.

Anna Mae was born on January 8, 1917, in Perth Amboy, NJ, to Earl and Jessie Lake. She attended Trenton State Teachers College and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in 1938. In 1942 she married John Landt, a high school classmate, with whom she enjoyed 58 years of marriage.

Since 1954, she was an active member of Concord Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and member of the choir, recorder, and hand bell ensembles. Anna Mae was also an accomplished pianist, having studied from a young age. For many years, she was a volunteer at the Wilmington Flower Market as well as a guide at the Read House, the Peirce House at Longwood Gardens, and Winterthur. As a member of Gordon Heights Garden Club, she also volunteered at the Veterans Hospital. While Anna Mae enjoyed concerts, theater, gardening, and traveling, she really loved to play bridge and was always looking for or arranging a foursome.

Anna Mae was predeceased by her husband, John; her sister, Kay; and her two brothers, Edward and Fredric. She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Whittington of Richmond, VA; Eleanor Jane Furry (Don) of Hockessin, DE; and Barbara Landt (Jim Bishop) of San Francisco, CA; five step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family thanks the staff at Rose Court and Willowtree Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during the last week of her life.

A memorial service will be held on what would have been her 105th birthday, January 8,2022,at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Maris Grove, 100 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA19342. Burial at Lower Brandywine Cemetery will be private.
