Miller, Hope Reidenbach

Hope Reidenbach Miller, passed away November 8, 2021, at the age of 94. She was a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Hope is survived by her children; Metta Miller and spouse Susan Schalk of Claremore, Oklahoma; Brian and spouse Nina Miller of Chantilly, Virginia and her grandchildren; Brian “Corey” Miller and Brent Miller. Her nieces; Juanita Reigle of Charlottesville, Virginia and her daughters, Gwen and Ellen Buckley; and Constance Reigle Stenger and her spouse, Fred Stenger of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, also survive her. She is predeceased by her spouse, Leon Miller; sister, Faith Reigle and her spouse John Reigle; Juanita Reigle’s spouse, Thomas Buckley; and her parents, Marie and Reverend Frederick Reidenbach.

Hope was born in Staten Island, New York on July 21, 1927, to Marie and Reverend Frederick Reidenbach. She graduated from nursing school and became a registered nurse on December 1, 1949. She worked as a nurse until she married Leon Miller on December 27, 1957. They lived in Wilmington, Delaware where Leon owned and operated Allied Lock and Safe for 40 years.

Hope was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved traveling and adventures. While she was still a child, her family never lived long in one area because her father was a minister that set up building churches through different areas of the country. One family vacation was spent traveling all across the country, through Death Valley, Yellowstone and along the Continental Divide. In addition, she was very musical and loved to sing and play the piano. She performed in many musicals in church and school. And she was a big ice cream lover. So many of her childhood pictures involve her holding an ice cream cone. She was always a happy person and if you ever saw pictures of her, she always was recognizable because of her “big smile.” She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and everyone that knew her.

A graveside funeral service is scheduled at 11:30 am on Friday November 19, 2021, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the United Methodist Commission on Relief (UMCOR) at umcor.org.
