Joseph A. Lowry (Joe), 81, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, July 8, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born in Philadelphia, PA., and was the son of the late Teresa (Durney) and Joseph F. Lowry. After graduating Monsignor Bonner High School, Joe went on to obtain an Economics degree from Villanova University, an MBA in Finance from Drexel University and a CPA license. Joe started his career at Deloitte Haskins and Sells and then went on to DuPont de Nemours, Inc spending over 30 years in a variety of corporate finance roles including mergers and acquisitions, financial analysis while ending his career as Director of Accounting Policy.
He had many interests including flounder fishing off the Jersey Coast, golfing (racking up 3 holes-in-one), reading and traveling (especially to Italy and Ireland) but what gave him the most joy were holiday dinners with family and relatives and summers at his Jersey shore house with as many children, in-laws and grandchildren as possible. Joe’s sense of humor, wit and caring nature will be sadly missed by his children, relatives and friends. He is survived by; a daughter, Marguerite C. Yesulaitis (Joseph); 3 sons, Joseph M. (Juli), Christopher J. (Wendy) and Stephen T. (Debra); 7 grandchildren, Paul (Jackie), McKenzie, Connor, Britney, Emily, Jacob and Hannah and a brother, James Lowry. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marguerite in 2014 and his sister, Patricia (Allen).
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 26 from 10:30 am-12:00 noon followed by Celebration of Life service at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware. Burial will be private to family at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vasculitis Foundation PO Box 28660 Kansas City, MO 64188 .
