Buono, Kathy

Kathy passed away on June 29th, after a very long and courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, William H. and Anne (Sharpe) Wilson; her sisters, Barbara and Anne; and her brother, Bobby. She is survived by Victor, her husband of 56 years; sons, Victor and Michael; grandchildren, Mikey, Haley, Hannah and Josephine Buono; great-grandchild, Briella Buono; sister, Gayle; brothers, Billy Wilson (Lois), Dave Wilson (Holly); sister-in-law, Marie DeCostanza (John); and several loving nieces and nephews. She felt very fortunate to have the strong support and love of her brothers, sisters and sister-in law and her family.

Kathy’s work career included administrative positions at Weinberg’s Department store in Chester before moving to Delaware in 1970. She then became a Teacher’s Aide at Channin Elementary School, and held administrative positions at Marinelli Construction and Fleetridge Engineering Consultants. She then changed her career path to become the Church Administrator of Church of the Holy Child in Wilmington, DE. She dearly loved this job and it’s many varied and interesting challenges until her illness in 2001. She was a loving mother and actively supported all of her children’s educational and sports endeavors. She relished the role of grandmother (“Nanny”) and most recently great-grandmother (“GNanny”).

The manner in which she dealt with her long health battles is an inspiration to her family and all of her many friends.

The family would like to acknowledge the following hospitals, medical providers, doctors, and nurses for the excellent care during Kathy’s long journey: Penn Medical-Otorhinolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery units, Crozer-Chester Radiology Team, Delaware ENT & Allergy, Delaware Family Care Associates, and Levine and Vaughn LLC Dental practice, the Christiana Care Hospital Floors 3B and 4E, and the Helen Graham Breast Cancer team and the Oncology and Hematology team. A very special thank you to the Season’s Hospice Unit.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent in Kathy’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and/or the Helen Graham Cancer Center’s Breast Cancer Unit and/or Oncology and Hematology Units.

Visitation will be held at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3924 Concord Pike) on Wednesday, July 7th from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., following which a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Holy Child (2500 Naamans Rd) beginning at 11:00 a.m.
