Wilmington - Sylvia S. Smrz, age 78, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2021.
She was born in Tulsa, OK and was the daughter of the late Margaret (Coulter) and Norman Stewart. Sylva was a graduated of Brandywine HS in 1960, the first graduating class and attended the University of Delaware.
She worked in the traffic department at the former Atlas/ICI as a freight claims adjuster for over 12 years. Prior employers were Wilmington Trust and Delaware Hospital. Sylvia was an active and lifelong member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, also served as an elder commissioner to the New Castle County Presbyterian. She was also a member of the PEO, Chapter H. Sylvia enjoy reading and cooking, but what brought her the most joy was her time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John; daughter, Victoria McConnell Aber (Dave) and 4 grandchildren, T.J., Maggie, Shannon and Kenzie McConnell. Sylvia was also preceded in death by 3 siblings, Mary Ellen, Joseph and Timothy Stewart. John and Victoria would like to thank all the kind, compassionate, professional caregivers at Seasons Hospice and all Trinity members and friends for their support.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 13, at 1pm, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1120 Darley Rd, Wilmington, DE 19810. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Sylvia’s name.
