Shirley I. Seningen, age 91, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Sunrise of Wilmington.
Shirley was born in Wilmington, daughter to the late Edward C. and Mary L. Widdekind. She was a graduate of Conrad High School. At the age of 18 she married Joseph A. (“Joe”) Seningen and the two enjoyed a loving marriage of 63 years until Joe’s passing in 2012.
In addition to the roles of wife, mother, and homemaker, Shirley worked with Joe at Richardson Variety Stores and later for INA, Cigna, and ACE Insurance Companies. Time spent with family and friends was precious to her and she enjoyed game nights and attending sports events. Shirley was a gifted craftsperson with painting, calligraphy, miniatures, and needlepoint among her interests and talents. She loved horses, carousels, lighthouses, covered bridges, and country music. Shirley immensely enjoyed traveling, most of all taking cruise trips with Joe.
Shirley was preceded by death by her husband Joe, by her daughter-in-law, Ken Seningen’s wife Susan, and by her great-grandson Mason. She is survived by her five children, Terry Seningen of Wilmington, Ken Seningen of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Doug Seningen and his wife Kathy of Holmes, Pennsylvania, Linda Boulanger and her husband Jeff of Bear, and Bryan Seningen and his wife Donna of Wilmington; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 4 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington DE 19803. Friends are invited to a viewing from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Shirley will be reunited with Joe at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery; burial will be private.
