Margaret C. Martin, age 96, died at Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware on February 1, 2021 from complications from Covid.
She was born in Showell, Maryland to Frances S. Carey and Mary E. Carey (Bishop). Following high school graduation, Margaret received an RN degree from The Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation, she served as a nurse at the Delaware State Hospital where she met the love of her life, John H. Martin, who was serving as an orderly for Civilian Public Service during World War II. They married in 1945 and eventually settled in Wilmington, Delaware where they raised their 3 children. Most of her life was spent raising her children and supporting her husband, John, as an independent businessman. She took great joy in her family and home and loved tinkering in her gardens and planning family holiday celebrations. As John always said, “I made the living, and Maggie made the living worthwhile.” No matter what her age, John always referred to her as his, “young bride.”
Margaret and John were founding members of Bethel Baptist Church in Wilmington and faithfully served the Lord there most of their lives.
She is survived by her sons, John D. Martin and his wife, Cheryl and Dale E. Martin and his wife Nancy of Wilmington and her daughter, Susan M. Blau and her husband, Jeff, of Charlotte, NC as well as 5 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 7 great grandsons and 8 great granddaughters.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 5th at 11 AM at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Wilmington, Delaware.
