John H. “Jack” West was born in Wilmington, DE on March 9, 1940 and returned to be with the love of his life on January 1, 2021. He was the son of the late William R. and Marguerite G. West. He grew up loving life and having fun. Jack served our country in the Army National Guard where he enjoyed traveling the country and experiencing the feeling of duty and service.
Jack worked for 38 years at Hewlett-Packard in the quality control department. This job made his children’s upbringing very interesting, since he inspected things for a living and often referred to himself as “detective dad,” “a numbers guy,” and “Mr. Lucky.” He retired in 1997 and had 22 years of fun fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, traveling, and playing bingo. He loved watching football, NASCAR (Go Jeff!), and game shows. However his biggest joy was spending time with his family and especially his 3 grandsons. They spent time bowling, mini-golfing, and working on push mobiles in the driveway. Jack loved playing with the 2 grand-puppies too, playing outdoors and spending every sunny day outside working with his flowers or his class act garden.
Jack will forever be cherished by his daughters Kathy (Fane) of Newark and Jennifer of Newark 3 grandsons Dorian, Skyler, and Logan, and his 2 grand-puppies that were his everyday joy Duke and Sugar. Along with Jack’s parents, he was also predeceased by the love of his life for 48 years Joan E. West and daughter Joan Marie West.
Jack’s wishes were for no viewing or service (he would rather us all be out having fun), however a celebration of his life will be held in the spring. Jack’s family wishes to thank the staff at Christiana Hospital and the entire team at Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Wendy, Ralph, and Karen for helping us at our most difficult time.
