Wilmington – Teresa (Teri) A. Cox, age 76, died peacefully on December 11, 2020 at the Christiana Hospital with loving family at her side.
Teri was born in Wilmington, DE on November 19, 1944. She was daughter of the late June and Thomas P. Dougherty. Teri graduated from the De La Warr School in 1962 where she met the love of her life, William (Bill). After graduating, she married Bill on August 31, 1963 while he was serving in the United States Air Force.
As a child and throughout her adulthood she spent some of her most treasured memories spending time at the family cottage on the Sassafras River in Maryland. Teri enjoyed reading and keeping up with new technology as it continues to challenge most. Earlier she co-owned a craft store with her lifelong best friend – Irene Marquess where they always continued to find time to “Joan” (Can we talk?). She loved to watch the birds and the flowers growing in her garden with the seasons change, but mostly she enjoyed being with her husband, children and grandchild. All of the friends and children who grew up to adults loved to be with “Grandmom”.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William “Bill”; her daughter Suzanne Brierley (Rob Farris) and a “treasured” granddaughter Sydni Marie Brierley (Trevor Gsell); her son, Daren; her loving sister F. Judith (Judy) Burris, (Ronald H. – Ronnie to her); Nephew R. Trace Burris (Sharon); Niece, Rene Burris (Michael Franson), and 2 great nieces – Melissa and Kathleen; her sister-in-law and husband - Leona & Jim Wilson.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 18 from 12-1pm at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808. Masks are required to attend and admittance into the funeral home will be regulated to conform to existing state regulations. Teri will be laid to rest privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name to Toys for Tots or similar local charities.
