Sandstrom, Robert C.

Robert C. Sandstrom 84, went home to be with the Lord on November 6th, 2020. He passed away unexpectedly at his home in Wilmington, Delaware. Robert was in the Navy as a Missileer on the USS Boston (CAG-1). He worked for many years at Kamagraph Corporation and retired from Brandywine Marketing, both of Wilmington. He was a Mason and member of Unity Lodge #32 and was a member of Community Fellowship Church for many years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing church softball and belonged to a bowling league. With his wife Shirley, they spent extensive hours accumulating McDonald’s collectables. In addition to selling at the farmers market, they also went on numerous trips visiting gravesites and archives as part of their genealogy research.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley Sandstrom in September 2012. He was a dedicated husband and father. Robert was there for Shirley during the many medical issues she faced at the end of her life.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Jane Sandstrom; his daughters, Sandra Rambo and her husband Ron, and Faith Sandstrom; his grandchildren, Ashley Sturgis, Sarah Goldsmith, Zachary Erskine and Kyle Erskine. He also leaves great grandchildren and two brothers.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM on Tuesday November 17th at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. Due to the current COVID 19 restrictions masks are required.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear DE 19701. Checks should be made out to the “State of Delaware.”
