Shinn, Jane M.

Jane Margaret (Marshall) Shinn went to be with our Lord on October 11, 2020 at the age of eighty-eight. Born in Wilmington, DE to her parents George H Marshall and Margaret R. (Grant). She was happily married to Joseph J. Shinn Sr. the love of her life, for 64 years.

Jane worked for many years at Woolworth’s (downtown Wilmington), Parklyn Pharmacy, A. Ralph Woodrow Plumbing/Heating and Roblin’s Plumbing and Heating before retiring.

In her earlier years Jane taught Sunday-school at Bria Presbyterian Church. She spent many weekends participating in Bowling Tournaments with her sister’s Peggy and Dottie, Boating and fishing at Leisure Point where she wouldn’t hesitate to take the boat out by herself. She loved spending time coaching softball for the first Rollins Leasing Girls Softball Team and an assistant coach to her Granddaughter’s 14U Softball Team at Midway Little League. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren playing football and softball/baseball and her Phillies! Later Jane had a great love for playing “Bingo” at the Senior Center in Elsmere, DE where she made many friends and loved to bake cakes for the seniors.

Jane is predeceased by her parents, George H. Marshal and Margaret R (Grant). Her brothers, George, Thomas, Richard, Harry, William, James and Charles and sister’s Lily, Anna, Margaret and Dorothy.

Jane is survived by her children, Margaret Caldwell (Paul, III) of Wilmington and Joseph Jr. (Ginger) of Pensacola, FL. Four grandchildren, Paul Caldwell, IV (Margaret), Christine Shepherd (Chip), Amy Shinn, and Joseph III. Five great-grandchildren; Maddison, Zachary, Derek, Kaelynn, and Makiah; her sister, Ruth Puglisi of Wilmington, DE and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing to be held on Saturday, October 17th at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood HWY, Wilm., DE, from 6-8pm. Burial will be private.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Somerford Place and the Christiana Hospital. Would also like to thank her neighbors Bob & Marge Comegys and Mike & Darlene Kapa for their unselfish caring and assistance throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Drive, Suite 407 Newark, DE 19713.
