George C. Benson of Wilmington DE, formerly of Media PA, passed away at Christiana Wilmington Hospital on the morning of September 22, 2020. He was 75 years old. He was born in Philadelphia in 1945. He was a graduate of Sharon Hill High School and the Delaware County Community College.
George was a veteran of the United States Navy and Naval Reserve. He retired in 1998 with 28 years of service. During his naval career he was stationed on board the USS Lindenwald (LSD-6), Naval Damage Control Training Center, Philadelphia, where he achieved Master Training Specialist, and the Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity in Mayport FL. He retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
He retired from Boeing Helicopters in Ridley Park, PA. Prior to being employed at Boeing, he worked for the Westinghouse Corporation in Lester, PA. George was also a Free Mason. George enjoyed traveling with his wife of 31 years, Susan (Fraticelli) and boating on the Chesapeake Bay.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Erik (Leah) and his daughter, Allison. He also leaves two grandchildren, Katherine and Paul and his brother David (Chriss) Benson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington DE from 2:30 to 4:00 PM on Saturday October 3rd. The Memorial Service that follows and interment will be private
