Mary P. McKernan, known as “Gingy”, Age 89, of Wilmington, Delaware died peacefully surrounded and supported by family members on June 5th, 2020 at the Country House in Wilmington.
Gingy was born in Scranton, Pa to the late John and Juel McKinney. She was preceded in death by her husband “Jack” and her daughter Julie. She is survived by 4 children: Kathi Schilly and her husband Mike of Katy, TX; Patrick and his wife Nova of Chatham, PA; Margaret Greytak and her husband John of Missoula, MT; and Michael and his wife Tammy of WV. She had 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.
Gingy was always quick to laugh and considered anything chocolate a perfectly adequate meal. She was well-known as a golfing enthusiast, Mario Brothers & Donkey Kong junkie, and a puzzle fanatic. She never let a challenge go unanswered. She loved needlepoint, knitting, and the performing arts and was very active with the Brandywiners. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and did her best to attend services weekly, despite her health.
Due to Delaware restrictions, a graveside service will be held. She will be interred in All Saints Cemetery on Kirkwood highway next to Jack on Monday, June 8that 10:00 AM.
