Marcia Schuyler Wight, 96, of Wilmington DE, died after living six courageous years with dementia. Marcia was born on February 28, 1924 and raised by Philip and Marie Schuyler along with her sister Betty in East Orange NJ. Marcie lived in Atlanta GA; Pitman NJ; Oklahoma City, OK; and Hollywood FL; but Wilmington DE was her home for the past 40 years. She graduated from East Orange High School, NJ and worked as a secretary in New York City while her fiancé, Charles Neville Wight, fought in WWII. They married right after VJ Day and moved to Atlanta GA, where Marcia worked as a nursing aide. She became a homemaker while she raised her two children, Pamela Wight and Charles Neville Wight, Jr.
Marcia was a long-time member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Wilmington and a member of P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization for women; she was the President of the Delaware State Chapter 1984-1985. An ardent tennis player, she also enjoyed working as a saleswoman for Gap into her 80’s. She loved to walk, exercise, and never missed a party. She was independent and active into her early 90’s.
Marcia was predeceased by her husband, Charles Neville Wight and sister, Elizabeth Rohn.She was deeply loved by her children, Pamela Wight (Jerry Coletta) and Charles Neville Wight, Jr. (Nancy); her grandchildren Nadine Coletta Hill (Dan Hill), Sean Coletta (Shara), Stephanie Wight, and Charles Ray Wight; and her great-grandchildren Sophie, Clark, and Neville Hill and Schuyler, Sutton, and Sloan Coletta.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marcia can be made to St. David’s Episcopal Church, 2320 Grubb Road, Wilmington, DE19810. Her family plans to schedule a celebration of life service at a later date.
