Russell B. McCallin, also affectionately called Mac and Dez, age 95, died peacefully at home with his family by his side.
Born and raised in West Chester, Pennsylvania, he was one of five sons of Francis J. McCallin and Sarah Rowland McCallin. After high school, he served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He later apprenticed as a carpenter and was a member of the Philadelphia Carpenter’s Union. He retired at age 65 but continued to practice his carpentry skills throughout his life by helping family and friends with projects.
He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and spending time with his large family. He was an avid train enthusiast and had an extensive model train collection.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Esther Sagers McCallin; his children Denise Holmquist, Matthew McCallin (Susan), Keith Sagers (Marian), Diane Moses, Kevin Sagers (Laurie), Lisa Greenfield, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, John McCallin, Donald McCallin, Walter McCallin, and Lloyd McCallin as well as his son, Gary Sagers.

A memorial service will be held at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Sunday, March 8th. Visitation will be at 1 pm with the service at 2 pm. Burial will be held privately.
