Lee, Dr. Ping Man

Ping Man passed away peacefully on January 21, 2020 at the age of 80 surrounded by family and friends after a battle with cancer.

Ping Man was born on November 12, 1939 to the late Yiu Ting Lee and Lai Yung Mak and grew up with his two brothers and six sisters in Hong Kong. After high school, Ping Man attended the National Defense Medical Center in Taiwan where he received his MD. During his residency, he met his wife, Sheue Shiang, a nurse who was interning at the Taipei Veterans General Hospital and married in April 1967.
Ping Man practiced as a General Surgeon at Country Hospital and Chung Shan Hospital. He also worked in the clinic of TTV Main Channel. He and his family immigrated to the US in September 1983; however, he continued his work as a surgeon in Taiwan flying back and forth between Taiwan and the US to work and visit his family. After his retirement in Taiwan in 1990, he moved to be with his family. He started working for St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware in 1991 as a Surgical Assistant until his retirement fourteen years later.

After retirement, he was a very active member of various clubs at the Chinese American Community Center, and Placeamus Deo his Catholic group. His love of travel and photography kept him busy editing tens of thousands of pictures. Ping Man’s musical talents included singing, drumming, playing er hu, guitar, and the piano. He also loved Chinese painting and poetry, and gardening, which lead to a home full of orchids and various flowers and plants. His special touch kept his orchids blooming year after year. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially over a good meal.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sheue Shiang Lee, his daughter Daphne Lee and her husband John; his son Alex Lee; grandchildren, Maxwell, Samantha and Henley Lee; his brothers, Raymond and Chi and his sisters, Celia Chik, Corinna Law, Mina Lee and Ella Li, numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation on Feb. 1st at 1PM followed with service at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.
