Joseph Finocchiaro, age 64, of Wilmington DE, passed away after his battle with Alzheimer’s on December 24th 2019.
Born February 10th 1955 to Joseph and Jennie Finocchiaro, he grew up in Bellevue graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in 1973. In high school he played football; was a great outside linebacker and ended up starting in the Blue Gold Game. He was also a very accomplished wrestler, placing first place in the Blue Hen Conference and 2nd in the state of Delaware before enlisting in the military.
He was a Recon Marine Sergeant and lived his life everyday until his death with the mentality “once a marine always a marine”.
He owned Recon Builders Inc. for many years working with the Ministry of Caring and had many hobbies such as scuba diving, piloting sea planes, flight instructor and running long distance marathons for the leukemia and lymphoma society.
He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, cousin and friend and will be missed by everyone he knew.
He is survived by daughter Alicia Gray (Nicholas Gray), son Joey Finocchiaro, sister Marianne Finocchiaro Brown, and new baby grand daughter Gabriella Gray, as well as many cousins and friends.
Flowers will not be accepted at the cemetery, in lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to your favorite military charity.
A committal service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, at 11 am, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road Bear, Delaware 19701 . Do not arrive at the cemetery before 10:50 am.
