Wilmington – Raymond E. Stapleford, Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 24, 2019.
He was born in Wilmington, DE and was the son of the late Ruth and Raymond Stapleford, Sr. Raymond graduated from Mt. Pleasant HS in 1954 and attended the University of Delaware. He was an Eagle Scout. Raymond proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War in Korea.
He worked for Hercules Research Center as a senior technologist and retired in 1994 after 34 years of service. Ray also was a hunting safety instructor for the Delaware Hunter Safety Education Program at Ommelanden Hunter Education and Training Center and various other locations in Delaware for over 30 years.
He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, playing volleyball there until the age of 75. Raymond loved to fish and hunt with his family and friends and skate at the Christiana Skating Rink, where he also enjoyed his time with his friends in the Coffee Club especially Alice. Bringing great joy to his heart were the times he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, chiefly teaching them how to skate, play yard games and enjoy books.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacquelyn M. Stapleford; 3 children, Mark A. Stapleford (Nancy), David A. Stapleford (Leslie) and Carol A. Stiltz (Eugene); 7 grandchildren, William Stapleford (Shannon), Matthew Stapleford (Ashley), Sarah Stapleford, Eric Stapleford, Michael Stapleford, Jessica Wiggins (Jerry) and Cassandra Stiltz; 6 great-grandchildren, Shane, Kaylee, Navi, Joselyn, Josephine and Jerry, III; 2 brothers, John Stapleford (Pat) and Daniel Stapleford. He is also preceded in death by his cousin Ethel May Darby MacDougall.

A visitation will be held beginning at 12 noon, on Friday January 3 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a memorial service will follow at 1 pm.Burial will be held privately.
