Newark – B. Carter Palmer, age 94, went to be with the Lord, with loved ones by his side on Thursday, November 14, 2019.
He was born in Wilmington, DE and was the son of the late Beulah (Carter) and John W. Palmer. Carter graduated from Conrad HS in 1943. He proudly served his country during WWII in the US Navy. Upon his return from the service, he worked at his father’s grocery store, Palmer’s Market, Clayton St. Wilmington. Carter then took over the market in the mid 60’s. He retired and sold the market 1989.
Also, after the war he played the piano in the local big band, The Serenaders. Carter was a member of Richardson Park UMC, and often attended Brandywine Chapel. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, reading, but what brought him joy was spending time with his family.
His first wife of 52 years, Virginia J. Palmer died in 1999. Carter is survived by his present wife of 20 years, Joyce S Palmer; 2 children, Steven C. Palmer (Kathy) and Wendy P. Nordhagen (Arlen), a sister, Esther Bollinger (Richard), 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and expecting 2 more. He is also survived by 7 children, Jonell, Cindy, Timothy, Bonnie, Angie, Rosanne and Glyn T., 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren from Joyce’s loving family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Carter’s name to your favorite Christian organization.
