Wilmington - Mary E. “Betty” Brock died peacefully at Brandywine Nursing Home on November 12, 2019 at the age of 98.
Betty was born in Chester, Pennsylvania to Esther and Francis Gill on March 22, 1921. She worked as a guardette at Scott Paper Company during WWII where she earned several awards as a sharpshooter. Betty then became a homemaker and raised four children in Chester.
As the children became older, she became employed at Crozer Chester Medical Center and worked in the coffee shop. During this time, she became an avid deep sea fisherman, fishing for many years in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New Jersey. She worked at Crozer Chester until her retirement in 1986. An excellent cook, she passed on this interest and influence of everything “homemade” to children, grandchildren, friends and relatives.
Betty was preceded in death by her son Timothy T. Brock in 1973. She is survived by her sons Michael D. Brock (Lynn), Patrick S. Brock (Mary) and daughter Elizabeth D. Brock, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on November 26th at 11 am at McCrery and Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where friends and relatives may call after 10 am. Burial will be at Lawncroft Cemetery, Linwood, Pennsylvania.
