DaSilva, Dorothy L. “Dot”

Wilmington - Dorothy “Dot”, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2019. Dorothy was born in Sayreville, NJ to Edwin and Dorothy (Dora) Heck, the oldest of 3 children. She graduated from Sayreville High School, NJ State Teachers College, and Rutgers University and became a teacher. She enjoyed teaching 6th grade the best. She married Joe in December 1962 and started a family of 4 girls. She kept her hand in teaching by volunteering with “Child Find’ and “Great Books”. She later worked in the St. Francis Hospital business office. Dorothy loved to sing, first with Our Lady of Victories choir in Sayreville, and then with the choir at Church of the Holy Child in Wilmington. She was a wiz at crossword puzzles, loved mysteries, and enjoyed sewing/quilting. She loved to travel as Joe discovered more things “she always wanted to do” over the years.

Dorothy was a loving wife and mother and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joe, daughters Lisa (Kevin), Maria (Tim), Alida (EJ), and Dana, and 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Matt, Adrian, Logan, Joe, Makena, and Jack. She is also survived by her brother Ed (Gerrie) and sister Evelyn.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Dot’s name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, www.michaeljfox.org.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, from 10-11 am at Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd, Wilmington, DE 19810, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery.
