Michael T. Smith, age 75, passed away peacefully on October 26th, after a long illness.
The son of Miriam A. and Horace E. Smith, Michael was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Newark, Delaware. He attended Newark High School before joining the United States Marines. A member of the UAW Local 1183, Mr. Smith worked at the Newark Chrysler Assembly Plant for many years before retiring.
Michael was an ardent sports fan, who spent much of his leisure time cheering on his favorite teams, including the New York Yankees and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was as equally passionate about music as he was about sports, and he will be remembered for his fondness of Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.
In addition to his parents, Michael is predeceased by his brother, Horace Smith. He is survived by his three daughters, Michelle Brymer, Dawn Smith, and Karen Levering, all of Newark, as well as eight grandchildren.
Interment will be private. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Genesis Brackenville Center for the excellent care Michael received prior to his passing.
