David J. Rice, age 72, of Newark, DE surrounded by loved ones, went home with his Lord on October 15, 2019 at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA., just 10 days short of his 50th wedding anniversary.
David served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. After returning home, he worked for the DuPont Company Edge Moor Plant for 30 plus years. He took advantage of early retirement and went to Delaware Technical Community College Culinary Arts Program and graduated with honors.. Dave used his skills in cooking mainly for his church, cooking for large banquets, 200 plus people at times. He had to give up his cooking after 2 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church for 40 years, Solomon Lodge # 36 AF & AM, where he was past master in 2003, and a member of the American Legion.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Peggy) Rowe Rice of Newark, DE; brother Charles E. Rice, Jr (Dolores), of Wilmington, DE; sister Linda D. Cunningham of West Chester, PA, and many brother and sister in-laws, and close friends he considered family. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be deeply missed by all, but especially his kitties.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday October 29, from 6-8 pm at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington 19808. A masonic service will be held at 7:30 pm. Friends are also welcome on Wednesday October 30 from 10-11am immediately followed by a celebration service at 11am at Faith Baptist Church, 4210 Limestone Rd. Wilmington 19808. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle. In lieu of flowers, gift in memory of David J.
