Robert “Bob” Shoemaker, of Claymont, Delaware passed away unexpectedly surrounded by family October 18, 2019 at Christiana Hospital at the age of 75. He is formerly of Virginia Beach, VA. and Atlanta, GA.
Bob was born in Souderton, Pennsylvania on June 3, 1944 to the late Garrett and Margaret (Harr) Shoemaker, and attended Souderton High School before graduating from West Chester University.
He was a beloved elementary school teacher, who had a unique ability to connect with children as a gifted reading specialist, helping to shape young lives. As he was always up for a challenge, he moved his family to Saudi Arabia for 10 years to work as a corporate trainer for the American Aramco oil company. Lastly, as he could not leave the education system behind, he worked in the Norfolk public school system as a testing administrator.
He had a love for spending time with family, home improvement projects, traveling, Scuba diving, attending professional sports games, playing tennis, hiking and of course his favorite past time of napping.
He is survived by his loving husband, Terrence L. Brooks of Claymont, DE, as well as his four sons, Andrew of Wynnewood, PA, Darren, husband of Ann, of Spring City, PA, Brendyn of Claymont, DE and Jaedyn of Claymont, DE. He also had one granddaughter, Keira, of Spring City, PA and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on October 26, 2019 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Visitation with the family will begin at 12 pm followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at 1 pm.
If desired, memorial contributions can be made to an education fund started for Brendyn and Jaedyn.
