Winchell, Robert W.

Wilmington - Robert W. Winchell, devoted husband to Kathleen M. Winchell and loving father to his five children passed away at home on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the age of 68. Bob was born on June 5, 1951 in Philadelphia to the late J. Donald and Marie C. Winchell. He was a proud graduate of Salesianum School, (1969), attended the University of Delaware and served his country in the Air Force Reserve. He enjoyed part time employment at Kreston Wine & Spirits for ten years. Bob led a full career of banking and mortgage lending. In his retirement, his passion for art was reignited. There were many days you would find him at his desk, painting and sketching. His coveted art adorns the walls of his home today.

Bob was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. He loved music of all kinds, playing it throughout the house on any weekend or evening. Bob loved to dance, at home in the kitchen with his family or at weddings. His splits became a highlight at the weddings of each of his children. Bob was kind and thoughtful and had a wonderful sense of humor and his laugh was infectious. He enjoyed many dear friendships that have lasted decades.

Preceded in death by his parents, James Donald Sr. and Marie (Cerceo) Winchell, Bob was also predeceased by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth M. Jones. He is survived by and loved beyond measure by his wife of 46 years, Kathleen M. Winchell (Burke); their children, Stephen R. (Erin), Brian J. (Kelly), Kathryn B. McGowan (William), Meghan E. Leyh (John), Courtney M. Rossi (John-Paul). Bob adored his thirteen grandchildren, each of whom he loved for their unique personalities and the joy they brought to his life: Nicholas, William, Joseph, Madeline, Isabel, Harry, Lillian, Samuel, Ferdinando, Caroline, Seraphina, Christopher and Leonardo all who loved their Pop with all of their hearts. Bob is also survived by his brothers J. Donald Winchell Jr. and Jay S. Winchell (Andrea), sister Susan M. Winchell, brother-in-law E. James Burke (Linda), loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was blessed with many devoted and cherished friends whose visits, assistance, laughs and good times shared brought such pleasure. We are grateful for their kindness and many years of friendship.

The care rendered by Juli, RN and Skeesha, and the staff of Delaware Hospice allowed Bob to remain at home with his family. We are so grateful.
