Wilmington - Eleanor L. Laganosky, age 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, August 23rd, 2019.
She was born in Upper Lehigh, PA and was the daughter of George and Hazel Sheaman. She graduated from Foster Twp. High School in 1948. Eleanor dedicated her life to her family. She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she was passionately involved with the Bible Study group. She enjoyed crafts- especially ceramics and embroidery, working in her garden, and her weekly coffee group with her girlfriends. Lovingly known as “Purple Nana” by her grandchildren, she would create handcrafted gifts for every holiday, leaving her family with many beautiful treasures to remember her by. She loved decorating for the holidays. No Christmas was complete without a visit to see Nana, her Christmas village, and her purple Christmas tree, which was set up before Thanksgiving. Eleanor was also one of the few people who still practiced the dying art of handwriting letters to her friends and family.
Her beloved husband of 32 years, Frank J., died in 1986. Eleanor is survived by her 3 children, Keith Laganosky (Denise), Cathy Siegfried (George), and Kim Burslem; and her brother, George Sheaman. She also has 14 grandchildren; Angie, Jeff, Jessica, Christopher, John, Hillary, Dean, Travis, Katrina, Kimmy, Kristin, Alexis, Quentin, and Katie; 9 great grandchildren, Mia, Macy, Buck, Bearon, Landon, Elliot, Cooper, Angela, and Jack; and many close nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Frank Jr. and daughter, Edith Young; and 2 siblings, Edith Huey and Charles Sheaman.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to The Seasons Hospice staff (especially Chantelle), Gladys, Johannie, and Gabby of Compassionate Home Care of Delaware County, and Jeannine and Charece of Griswold Home Care. The kindness and love they showed to Eleanor in the wake of her recent illness will never be forgotten by the family.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, at 11 am, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where friends may call after 10 am. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Eleanor’s name to St. Pauls UMC, 1314 Foulk Rd, Wilmington DE 19803. In her honor, always think of her when you see or wear purple.
