Gerald Mann Rensch, 81, formerly of North East, MD died on Thursday, June 6, 2019, in Wilmington, DE.
Born August 24, 1937, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Martha A. Rensch and J. Harold Rensch.
He served five years in the Army Reserves and graduated from Temple University with his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1981. After retiring from a fulfilling career working with DuPont in Wilmington, DE, he returned to higher education to earn a second degree in Project Management, and then went on to manage several civil engineering projects throughout the mid-Atlantic.
A lifelong supporter of his community and church, Jerry was also a member of the Annapolis Masonic Lodge #89 and volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.
He was an avid hiker who spent many miles on the Appalachian Trail, national parks, and state forests. He enjoyed performing with barbershop quartets and singing with his church choir.
Proud of his German heritage, Jerry enjoyed wearing his traditional lederhosen to Bavarian festivals for an excellent schnitzel and a cold beer. He also held a lifelong fondness for Oreo cookies.
Jerry is survived by his three daughters; Stephanie (Matthew) Hamilton of Wilmington, DE, Johanna (Daniel) Witten of Edgewater, MD and Christina (Paul) Friehauf of Bend, OR. Two grandchildren, Annaliese, and Phoebe Witten and brothers Wayne A. Rensch of Hilton Head, SC and Ronald W. Rensch of Jacksonville, FL, and their families.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 11th at 1:00 pm at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE. Visitation opens at 1:00 pm and the service will begin at 2:00 pm. A private burial will be held in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA.
