Janet Lee Gleysteen Dill died Monday, May 13. She was 80. Janet was born in Providence, RI, to Leland and Margaret Gleysteen, and lived in Maryland, Ohio, and Texas before finally settling in West Chester, PA. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Speech at Grinnell College and did graduate work at Harvard University.
After graduation, she taught at South Junior High School in West Chester. In 1962, she married Glenn Dill Sr. and moved to Wilmington. Once her children started school, she began working part time at the DuPont Company in their External Affairs department.
In 1996, she took an early retirement from DuPont and started Real Solutions, a public relations and marketing company. In 2005, her daughter began working with her and they renamed the business The Dill Company. She was co-editor and co-author of two books: Widening Horizons: 75 Years of the Tatnall School, and DuPont: Celebrating 100 Years of Engineering.
Janet was also deeply committed to philanthropy. A 4th generation member of P.E.O., Janet served as State President in 1999. She served on the board of The Cathedral Choir School of Wilmington, and served on the Music Committee at Christ Church Christiana Hundred.
The roles most important to her, however, were mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Lisa of Wilmington, her son Glenn and daughter-in-law Angie, and their sons Bryce and Jake of Davie, Florida. She is also survived by her sisters Judith, Marion, and Glenore and their families.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 21st at 10:30 am at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 E. Buck Road, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ruth & Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (Penn Medicine Development, 3535 Market St., Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104) or the Christ Church Christiana Hundred Choir Fund (P.O. Box 3510, Wilmington, DE 19807).
