Diane D. Stecher, 72, died peacefully at her home in Chesterfield, VA, on Tuesday May 28, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Diane was born in 1946 in the Bronx, NY to Berdine Janice and Otto W. Geiger. They later moved to the suburbs of Wilmington, DE, where Diane attended Mount Pleasant High School and Goldy Beacom College. She married Paul F. Stecher on June 1, 1968. In 1981, they moved to West Chester, PA to raise their family. In 1988, a work transfer moved the Stechers to Chesterfield, VA, where they have made their home the past 30+ years.
Diane loved crafting, keeping up with current events, celebrating the holidays, and enjoyed fellowship and volunteering at her parish, St. Augustines Catholic Church. Family was everything to Diane. She and Paul spent their later years traveling up and down the East coast visiting relatives (especially her grandchildren). She rarely, when she was physically able, missed an event for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a devoted, loving, and beloved wife, mother, mom- mom, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
She is survived by her husband Paul; children, Tara Garcia (Matthew Garcia), Steven Stecher (Wendi Stecher) and Eric Stecher; grandchildren, Chase Stecher, Sierra Stecher, Carly Garcia, and Tyler Garcia; Brother, David Geiger, and Sister, Gwen Bogia; as well as many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews, and Friends.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 AM at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE on Saturday June 8th. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM at St. Helenas Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE. Interment will take place in Chester-Bethel Cemetery. A celebration of Dianes life will be held in Virginia at a later date.
