Brinton, Gertrude

Gertrude L. Brinton of Wilmington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on February 7, 2019.

Born in Jamaica, New York, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Richard and Eva Lenox. She graduated from Claymont High School in 1943 and then went on to Goldey College (now known as Goldey Beacom College). Gertrude became an accountant and headed the payroll department at Baker and Anderson Works (a subsidiary of Allied Chemical Co.). After her two daughters were born, she became a homemaker and was involved in many of their activities from kindergarten through college. After her daughters were married and left home, she became very interested in antiques and collectibles. You could find Gertrude at many auction houses, estate sales, and even garage sales. She was an avid Hummel, clown, and hat pin collector.

Gertrude was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, The Brinton Association of America, and a charter member of Ruth Chapter # 19 O.E.S. Following her first loves of family and friends, she enjoyed singing and dancing.

She was preceded in death in 1948 by her infant son, Lenox, in 1990 by her beloved husband, John W. Brinton, and in 2006 by her brother, Richard J. Lenox. Gertrude is survived by her two daughters Linda B. Harra (Robert) and Joann B. Diamond (Dale); her grandchildren: Holly H. Pommerening (Ryan), Robert V.A. Harra III (Michele) and Michael Diamond (Kristen); her great-grandchildren: Bennett, Maxwell, and Lilah Pommerening; Brinton and Landyn Harra, and Lucas Diamond. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Florence L. Seney; sister-in-law, Laura M. Lenox and several nieces and nephews. Gertrude will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A viewing will be held from 10 10:45am, Monday, February 11 at St. Pauls Methodist Church, followed by her funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will be at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Thornton, PA.
