May 31, 1923 - January 22, 2019
Doris J. Yorkston, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Genesis - Brackenville Center in Hockessin, DE. Born in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late John T and Mary Frances Jester.
She graduated from Wilmington High School, after which she began her career with the DuPont Company, ultimately retiring from the Legal Department after nearly forty years of service.
She loved being a homemaker for her three children, and later in life, a grandmother to her five grandchildren, and great grandmother to five great grandchildren.
Doris loved to travel, especially to visit family on Marylands Eastern Shore, to the beaches of Lewes and Rehoboth, and bus trips to New England in the Fall. Above all, she loved the three trips she and her mother shared visiting Hawaii. Music and dancing were also a lifelong interest. Her favorite music included the Big Bands of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Tommy Dorsey. While these interests and pursuits remained an important part of her life, it was her love of animals, especially dogs and cats, which sustained her in her later years.
She is survived by her three children, Cam Yorkston (Kathy) of Hockessin, Karen Fanning of Wilmington, and Ken Yorkston of Longwood, FL; grandchildren Allison Przybylski (Keith) of New Castle, Kristian Fanning (Jen) of Wilmington, Christina McNiff (Duncan) of Philadelphia, Kari Ferrara (Anthony) of Apopka, FL, and Jessica Yorkston of Maitland, FL, and great grandchildren, Collin Fanning, Mackenzie Fanning, Conner Przybylski, Ian McNiff, and Graham McNiff. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ken Fanning.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Genesis-Brackenville Center, DE Hospice, and the staff and therapy teams of PAWS for People for their care and kindness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 26th at 11am in the chapel at Genesis-Brackenville Center, 100 St. Claire Dr., Hockessin, DE. Burial will be private.
