Eric M. Evans, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 9, 2019. After fighting a courageous battle with ALS, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Eric was born on December 2, 1949 in Camden, NJ. He attended George Washington High School in New York City, and Rutgers University in Camden, NJ.
He was employed by the Camden County Sheriffs Department where he retired as captain in 2010. During his twenty-seven year tenure he was a sergeant in the Identification Department and a lieutenant in Transportation.
Eric truly lived life to the fullest by being actively involved in his church. He gave his life to Jesus Christ as an adult and had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and spiritual way. Eric built close relationships in the churches where he fellowshipped and was currently a member of Brandywine Valley Baptist Church. He was an avid reader, and an excellent student of the Bible.
Eric is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-two years, Mary Evans, mother Malvina Slater and stepfather Richard Slater, children Osha Belcher, Eric Evans Jr., Ericka Lowe, Michael Evans (Tiffany), Tiffany Howard, Todd Johnson (Kaely), fourteen grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 16 at 9:30 am at Brandywine Valley Baptist Church, 7 Mount Lebanon Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803 with a funeral service at 10:30 am. Interment will follow the service in Lower Brandywine Cemetery.
