Newark - Joshua Sabastian Oakes, 19, passed away on Saturday November 17th, 2018. Josh passed in the loving embrace of his mother and father, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Josh loved fishing and playing Xbox with his brothers, which would usually end in a round of rough housing. He absolutely adored tormenting his sisters as much as he loved being a protective big brother. He was always most at peace when Abi and Jaydin would sit still long enough for a close cuddle. Josh would always make time to talk to his brothers and sister about what was important to them. Josh played basketball, sat around fires, excelled in lacrosse through high school, worked harder than the person next to him, loved his friends and spending time with his family, and he was in school completing his first-year apprenticeship for HVAC. Josh had a passion for life. Passion is defined as a strong and barely controllable emotion. Josh poured out his passion on us. Who can control how a waterfall pours out on the water below? Who has more strength and courage than the lion? Josh was strong when others felt weak. Josh was courageous when others felt scared. He was strong and courageous like a lion. Josh is still with us, watching over us, enjoying our time.
Joshua is remembered by his father Jason Oakes & Alison Herbert; his mother Amanda Kay & Cory Ross; his two sisters Abigail and Jaydin and his three brothers Jacob, Jeremy and Ethan; his grandparents, MaryAnn Oakes, Joni and Phil Lee, Kevin and Barb Greist; his cousins Cristen and Lauren McCartney, Brandon, Sarah, Michael and Emily Dudley; his aunts and uncles Lenny and Debbie McCartney, Brian and Jennifer Dudley, and Robert Oakes; along with numerous extended family. Joshua will also be missed by his lifelong best friend, Joey Campbell and his girlfriend of over two years, Sabrina Baillie.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 24th from 9-10:45 a.m., at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 3135 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, DE. Services will be held at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn, DE. A remembrance of his life will follow back at Cornerstone church after burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Joshua’s name to Adopt-A-Family Delaware, 3301 Green St. Claymont DE 19703.
