Myers , Angeline Angie McCall

Wilmington - Angeline “Angie” McCall Myers died peacefully on December 5, 2018 in Wilmington, Delaware at the age of 99.

Angie was born in Trenton, New Jersey and moved to Wilmington at age 9. She graduated fifth in her class from P.S. du Pont High School. She earned a secretarial degree from Goldey-Beacom College. She worked as a secretary for Kinnamon, Taylor and Dawes Insurance Agency for 25 years.

An active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for decades (starting at age 9), Angie served in many roles over the years, including church council president, choir member, church council secretary, and pianist for Sunday school. She also started the Luther League (youth group) and served as President of the Lutheran Church Women for the Delaware-Maryland Synod.

Angie was happily married to the love of her life, John J. Myers, for 47 years, until his death in 1987. The couple met on a blind date and married in 1940. They raised four children and spent time volunteering together at Lutheran Community Services Food Pantry and Contact Delaware crisis hotline; they also took in a family from Vietnam after the Vietnam War ended. They loved to square dance, a hobby they enjoyed together for 25 years. John and Angie traveled after they retired, visiting Germany, Australia and New Zealand, among other places.

Angie had many hobbies: bridge, counted cross stitch, sewing (including making her own square dance dresses), and gardening. She made jam from the raspberries that grew in her backyard and her garden supplied the zucchini she used to make her well-loved zucchini bread, which always disappeared quickly at Sunday meals with family.

Angie was a woman of strong Christian faith who dedicated her time to serving others: caring for her mother for 12 years in her home, taking care of her sister when she had breast cancer, and volunteering within the community. She valued family and provided a home full of love and music, especially at Christmas, when she would play the piano so the family could sing carols together.

Angie is predeceased by her husband, John Myers and her son, Richard Myers. She is survived by her daughters Sandra M. Pierson (Ronnie), Marilyn M. Anderson (Ron), and Nancy V. Myers (Bill Harrington) as well as her grandchildren Laura Weaver, John Pierson, Nancy Mason, Heather Feus, Peter Anderson, Steven Myers, Katie Green, Carolyn Spencer, Dan Murray and Susan Cicala, and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cadia Silverside for their compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (501 Duncan Road, Wilmington). Prior to the service, friends may call upon the family at 10:00 a.m. at the church; a lunch in the Fellowship Hall will follow the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Angie’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in Angie’s memory to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
