Jan Horn was abruptly taken from us on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the St. Francis Hospital. Jan was born May 1, 1949 at The Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Calvin Lewis Horn Jr. and Elizabeth (Shek) Horn. Jan graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1967 and attended Wilmington College.
As a young boy, Jan, was a newspaper carrier for the News Journal. Later in life, he delivered the newspapers again and continued delivering until his sudden death. Jan worked at Acme markets and at a printing company in Wilmington as a young man. He then began his long career in the Automotive Industry from 1984-1997. He started at Matthew Tires and R&M Automotive with his long time friend Bruce Robinson of Dover, DE. He also worked at Thrifty Car Rental in Newark and Schaefer Lincoln Mercury in Dover, DE where he worked as a service writer. During Jan’s time at Schaefer’s he went to Deerborn, MI to take a training class to be a Service Advisor. Also, during this time, he worked as a groundskeeper at Hercules Country Club. Jan’s final job was with Aztec Copies in North Wilmington where he delivered the orders to other locations.
Jan Horn had many hobbies. He loved to work on cars. If he wasn’t fixing his own car, he was fixing someone else’s. He also loved to be around his dog of 15 years, Bridgette. She was his sidekick and he loved her dearly.
Jan and the family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Walpole (Foot and Ankle Specialists, Dr. Bernard King (family practice), Dr. Collins and Stephanie Lee (Infectious Disease) and the St. Francis Home Care Nurses. We all sincerely appreciate the extra care and love you gave to Jan.
