Allen, George Evan

George was a hard-working, self-made man with a big personality. He enjoyed spending time with friends, many of whom were lifelong, sharing meals, making and drinking wine, and reminiscing about the many good times they had throughout their lives. A passionate father, he was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren, who will remember him as their Pop Pop.

George passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on September 22, 1944, the first son of the late June Catherine (Williams) and George CJ Allen. George was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. Upon graduating from Wilmington High School in 1963, George enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was proud of his patriotic duties during the Vietnam War and remained devoted to the Marine Corps. His last assignment before his honorable discharge was as an instructor at Quantico, Virginia.

From there, he began a lifelong career in Real estate—George’s time with Cole, Layer & Trumble and Sabre Systems took him to Bennington, Vermont, and Cleveland, Ohio. Upon returning to Wilmington in 1975, he took on the role of Loan Construction Officer at First Federal Savings and Loan. Following his departure from First Federal, George started his own business, Allen Appraisal Associates, where he found several decades of success as a Residential and Commercial Real Estate Appraiser.

He is survived by his two children, Kira McDonnell (Ryan) and Sean Allen (Lyuboslava); five grandchildren, Declan, Brynn, Maeve McDonnell, Victor, and Liam Allen; two siblings, Richard Allen (Delores) and Linda Wright Stapleford (Tim); four nieces, Kerrin Penny and Katherine Allen, Kaela Mason, and McKenna Stapleford; one nephew, Kyle Penny; and many cousins.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 10:30 am at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Marine Corps League Foundation, www.mclfoundation.org/donations.
