Dr. Frederick C. Schmitt, PE, “Fred”, age 71, of West Chester, PA died on October 11, 2013 at his home after a valiant four month battle with lymphoma.

Fred graduated with a PhD in Civil Engineering from Drexel University in 1971. He was a Professional Civil Engineer Consultant and a Professor at Temple University School of Engineering. Fred was a lifetime member of ASCE, as well as a member of many other professional organizations. He held licenses in 48 states.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, loved riding his John Deere tractor and working with Habitat for Humanity.
Fred was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Laura and Matthew; his step-children, Tammy and Todd (Julie); five grandchildren, Caitlyn, Zachary, Carson, Phoenix and Kendall; three sisters, Carol, Patti and Judi; one brother, Joe; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held Tues. Oct. 15th from 6 to 8 PM in the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilm., DE 19803. A visitation will also be held on Wed. Oct. 16th from 10 to 11 AM in the Brandywine Valley Baptist Church, 7 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Wilm., DE 19803, where a Life Celebration Service will begin at 11 AM in the church. Interment will be private.
